FIRST TIME USERS OF THIS WEBSITE

The Internet is a valuable resource that can provide a range of information. For the first time user however it can be difficult to find your way around.

Finding a site

The internet is a series of connections between computers, that allow computers to transfer information. Computers house web sites, where this information is stored and can be accessed. Every web site has its own unique address, that usually begins with www.

For instance the address of the GRDC's site is www.grdc.com.au. This address tells your computer where to find that site.

Once you have found a site

Once you have located the site you are after navigating or finding your way around the site is easy, if you remember a few simple directions.

Within a site are a series of links, that take you directly to other areas in the site. These will usually appear in a different colour to the rest of the text. You will also notice that when you run the mouse over these links the arrow turns to a hand that points to this. This means that the link is active and if you click on it you will follow that link automatically to another part of the site, or another site.

To return to the page you were at before is best done by using the Back button on the toolbar. This will take you back to the previous page you had open. There is also a Forward button that you can use to jump between pages you have opened.

Remembering a site

When you find a site you really like, there are two ways to remember it. Firstly you can get the computer to remember its location for you. This can be done by clicking on Favourites or Bookmarks (depending on which program you are using) and adding the site to the list. Next time you want to return to this site, simply go to Favourites/ Bookmarks and open the address you are after.

You can also record the site in a notebook or address book. You may find it useful to keep a notebook or address book next to your computer and record addresses, commands and other useful information.

The Grains Research and Development Corporation (GRDC) has provided this website with the capability to provide equal access for people with a visual disability, and to provide access more broadly and more quickly than is possible with other forms.
