Significant events

One of the GRDC’s reporting requirements under section 15 of the CAC Act is to notify the responsible minister of proposed significant events. The following table lists significant events of which the GRDC notified the Minister during 2007–08, as well as the dates on which the Minister made announcements or decisions of particular significance to the GRDC.

7 July 2007 The Hon. Sussan Ley, MP, the then Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister for Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry, formally approved the GRDC’s Strategic R&D Plan 2007–12.
9 July 2007 The Parliamentary Secretary formally approved the GRDC’s Annual Operational Plan 2007–08.
11 July 2007 The Parliamentary Secretary formally launched the GRDC’s Strategic R&D Plan 2007–12 at Parliament House, Canberra.
16 August 2007 The Parliamentary Secretary appointed Mr Keith Perrett as the new GRDC Chair, with effect from 1 October 2007.
7 September 2007 The GRDC informed the Parliamentary Secretary that the Department of Agriculture and Food Western Australia (DAFWA) wheat-breeding program would be incorporated into a company, with shares to be owned by DAFWA and the GRDC.
11 September 2007 The Parliamentary Secretary wrote to the GRDC Chair to provide the GRDC with an updated Statement of Expectations.
16 October 2007 The Parliamentary Secretary approved the GRDC’s Annual Report 2006–07 for tabling. The report was tabled out of session on 25 October 2007.
19 October 2007 The GRDC Chair wrote to the Parliamentary Secretary to provide a formal response to the updated Statement of Expectations, in a Statement of Intent detailing how the GRDC will fulfil the Minister’s expectations.
30 October 2007 The GRDC informed the Parliamentary Secretary that InterGrain Pty Ltd, incorporating the DAFWA wheat-breeding program, was launched on 26 October 2007 and that the GRDC initially owned 18 percent of shares.
30 October 2007 The GRDC informed the Parliamentary Secretary that, with the conclusion of Single Vision Grains Australia, the company Single Vision Grains Australia Ltd had been transferred to the GRDC.
30 April 2008 The GRDC submitted the GRDC 2008–09 Annual Operational Plan to the Minister for Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry, the Hon. Tony Burke, MP, for approval.
13 June 2008 The GRDC informed the Minister of a proposed offer by Vilmorin & Cie to buy shares in Australian Grain Technologies Pty Ltd (AGT), which would dilute the GRDC’s shareholding in AGT.
13 June 2008 The GRDC informed the Minister that it was leading discussions for the preparation of a national Australian grains industry RD&E strategy, along with DAFWA.
27 June 2008 The Minister approved the GRDC’s 2008–09 Annual Operational Plan.
