Precision Agriculture Manual - CD Rom
    Order No:

    GRDC287

The PA Manual CD contains three documents:

PA manual - summarises technical detail about the science and technology of PA and how growers can apply it in practice. It includes spreadsheets that can be used by growers and advisers to see whether expenditure on PA is likely to be a sound investment.
Undertaking your own on-farm experiments: how PA can help - explains how growers can use PA to lay out and harvest their own trials of new varieties or different rates of fertiliser or other inputs.
Standards for Electro-magnetic Induction Mapping – proposes a set of standards for good practice in undertaking and reporting EM surveys.

The three documents are complementary and have numerous active links so that they can be jointly searched. The CD has been set up so that sections, pages, diagrams and images can be easily printed or saved for later modification and use in other PA education and training materials. Designed for growers and advisers who are familiar with the PA concepts and want more detailed information.

GM Foods goes a long way towards explaining how genetically modified food is checked for safety and how its is regulated by Food Standards Australia New Zealand. More and more, consumers are requiring information about the food they eat so that they feel more comfortable making an informed choice about the food through food labelling. This 53-page booklet is not only informative for the consumer but is also recommended for use in schools.

The 'Green Revolution' represented a step change in crop yield that has done much to sustain mankind, not least in the less developed countries. The promise of the gene technologies, including genetic engineering, is to deliver the next step change. For the debate to move on, both graingrowers and consumers need access to reliable information that explains the science and its uses, and that also takes into account the community-awareness factors. This booklet, published by the GRDC, is a contribution to meeting this need.
