CALL FOR TENDERS GRDC INVESTMENT PLAN 2010-11 (Open and Multi-stage Tenders)

The Grains Research and Development Corporation (GRDC) Investment Plan (Open and Multi-stage Tenders) outlines some of the Corporation’s new investment priorities for 2010-11.

The GRDC partners with researchers and other investors to help drive innovation in the Australian grains industry and ensure that grain growers have the technologies to enable them to effectively compete in global grain markets.

Some examples of 30 project areas for tender include:
• genome sequencing in narrow-leafed lupins
• germplasm enhancement for yellow spot resistance and frost tolerance in wheat
• development of herbicide tolerant pulses
• profitable crop sequencing
• alternative chemistries for mite control
• protecting stored grain
• agribusiness trial extension networks
• delivery of technical workshops

Closing date for tender responses is Thursday 8 October 2009 at 2pm AEST

The anticipated date for formal response to the 2010-11 Open and Multi-stage Tenders is December 2009.

In the section ‘Project Description’ of call for tender 1.2.02A we were referring to AWBMMP rather than to AWCMMP.

Frequently asked questions

Clarification

(Posted 9/9/09)

Regarding calls for tender Nos
1.2.01A Crown rot gremplasm enhancement for wheat and barley
1.2.02A Genetic options for nematode control
1.2.03A Germplasm enhancement for yellow spot resistance in wheat

All three areas of investment include the development of molecular markers as part of the deliverables. The GRDC already has a major ongoing investment in the Australian Wheat and Barley Molecular Markers Program (AWBMMP) for the development of molecular markers for biotic stresses, including the above-mentioned pathogens. Tenderers in these areas will be required to make the necessary collaborative arrangements with AWBMMP regarding the development of markers.

2.4.02A Empirical studies for Technology Adoption uptake on key RDE practices (Posted 2/10/09)

Q5: Just had a question about the reference made to the GRDC survey (2008) on page 69. Can you tell me where this survey is published (web link would be great).

A5: The data presented on page 69 is a fragment from an internal GRDC survey. It is included in the Investment Plan to demonstrate the variability of adoption rates. This survey is not presently published.

Tender 1.4.02A Improving food quality and end use market acceptance of Australian Pulses (Posted 28/9/09)

Q4: Could you advise me if the GRDC is expecting a single tender to be submitted covering all aspects of this project or if they would consider a tender that covers several specific deliverables that are specific high level skills of my collaborative team?

A4: Please refer to page 12 of the 2010-11 Investment Plan re part proposals. The GRDC will consider proposals from applicants, researchers or teams to carry out only part of a project. The GRDC, however encourages applicants in this position to consider partnering, consortia or other forms of collaboration with other potential providers to develop a complete tender.

Tender 1.2.07A Germplasm enhancement for improved frost tolerance in wheat and barley (Posted 24/9/09)

Q3: Could you kindly clarify for me the status of the Tender 1.2.07A ‘Germplasm enhancement for improved frost tolerance in wheat and barley’ pasted below, from the 2010-11 GRDC Investment plan?

Will applications for this tender only be sought after the Frost workshop has been held in November and the priorities clarified, or is GRDC calling for tenders for this area at the same time as the others (applications due 8th Oct)?

A3: GRDC will only seek applications following the workshop in November.

Tender 1.2.02A - Genetic options for nematode control (Posted 18/9/09)

Q2: In relation to the ring testing currently underway for CCN and RLN ranking resistant and tolerant varieties in regions, please would you provide details on the current project and on any reports and publications resulting from this project?

A2: The RLN Ring Test is being coordinated by Dr Jason Sheedy, DEEDI QPI Toowoomba who was nominated by the Nematology working group at a meeting in December 2008 in Adelaide to facilitate this role. The following projects are involved in the ring test DAW00157 (DAFWA), DAS00057 (SARDI) and DAQ00142 (DEEDI, QPI). The testing is planned to be completed by the 30th September 2009. No reports or publications from this testing is currently available. The outcomes of this ring test when finalised will be made available via the CAIGE website germplasm register by mid 2010.

Q1: In relation to the national workshop to be held in late 2009, can you tell me where and when this workshop will be held, and who is organising it?

A1: The National Nematology working group workshop is likely to take place in the first two weeks of December 2009. Dr Jason Sheedy DEEDI QPI Toowomba will be organising the meeting in collaboration with the GRDC.
