Grains Industry Visiting Fellowships (VF)

Grains Industry Visiting Fellowships (VFs) are available to overseas R&D personnel who are able to enhance programs supported by the GRDC with their specific skills.

Activity should occur at one or more Australian host institutions or companies. Preference will be given to candidates that will be collaborating with other institutions in addition to their host.

Support will be for a minimum of 2 months and a maximum of 12 months.

The total value of the award shall not be greater than $17,500 per visitor. Applicants who have supplementary funding from other institutions will be regarded favourably.

The GRDC invites and assesses VF applications once a year. The next application closing date is Friday 31 October 2008.
 

1. Selection Criteria

The main criteria used in selecting successful applicants include:
• Experience and ability of the applicant as demonstrated through a detailed resume
• Value of the visit to the Australian grains industry
• Scientific credibility of the proposed host institution(s) or company(ies) and collaborating scientists
• Level of financial support from host and other institutions
• Level of collaboration with other institutions in addition to their host
• Evidence that the proposed collaborators are agreeable to the training program
• Scope of proposed delivery and communication plan



2. Applying

Applicants are required to use the GRDC’s ‘Grains Industry Visiting Fellowship (VF) Application’ template.

When completed, the GRDC requires ten (10) signed paper copies (A4 size, double sided & stapled) of the application and supporting documentation to be submitted. These should be addressed to:

An electronic copy of the application is also required and must be emailed to forms@grdc.com.au. The name of the emailed document should incorporate the Visiting Fellow’s full name.

Both the paper and electronic copies must reach the GRDC by 5pm on the closing date.

Applications will not be acknowledged upon receipt.

Applicants will be advised of the outcome of their application by mid December.

3. Reporting Requirements

On completion of the Visiting Fellowship, a Final Report must be submitted to the GRDC within one (1) month of the fellowship completion date. The format for this Final Report is available on the GRDC’s website: http://www.grdc.com.au/director/apply/ - ‘Final Report for VF, SF and IST’.

Four (4) signed copies of the Final Report, including any attachments, should be forwarded to:

As payment is made directly to the host institution or company, the host institution or company is required to forward to the GRDC, as soon as possible (and, in any event, within 3 months) following the completion of the activities described in the application, a statement of expenditure of the funds certified to be true and correct by a representative of the organisation who is authorised to sign financial statements (the template for this statement can be downloaded from the GRDC’s website: http://www.grdc.com.au/director/apply/ - Form C).

Failure to meet these reporting requirements will be considered when assessing future applications.

4. Payment of Visiting Fellowship funds
Funds are paid directly to the host institution or company. 75% of the approved funds will be paid upfront. The remaining 25% will only be paid once all reporting requirements have been met, including the submission and approval of a Final Report (within one (1) month of the fellowship completion date) and a Form C
