Grains Industry In-Service Training (IST)

The GRDC invites and assesses SF & IST applications once a year. The next application closing date is Friday 30 October 2009

Grains Industry In-Service Training Awards (ISTs) are available to younger scientists, advisers, technical staff and others engaged in work relevant to GRDC objectives that may not be eligible for other forms of support.

Funding will be considered for travel, secondment or interchange between institutions and will be available for a maximum of six (6) months.

Support will generally be up to a maximum of $25,000, but can exceed this amount in special circumstances where the GRDC considers these to exist.

1. Eligibility

To be eligible for an SF or IST:
• The candidate must be an Australian citizen or permanent resident


2. Selection Criteria

The main criteria used in selecting successful applicants include:
• Experience and ability of the applicant as demonstrated through a detailed resume
• Extent of likely benefit to the Australian grains industry
• Scientific credibility of the proposed host organisation(s) and collaborator(s)
• Evidence that the proposed collaborators are agreeable to the training program
• Level of financial support from other sources
• Scope of proposed delivery and communication plan


3. Applying

Applicants are required to fill out the attached ‘Senior Fellowship (SF) & In-Service Training (IST) Application’ template.

When completed, the GRDC requires ten (10) signed paper copies (A4 size, double sided & stapled) of the application and supporting documentation to be submitted. These should be addressed to:

An electronic copy of the application is also required and must be emailed to forms@grdc.com.au. The name of the emailed document should incorporate the applicant’s full name.

Both the paper and electronic copies must reach the GRDC by 5pm on the closing date.

Applications will not be acknowledged upon receipt.

Applicants will be advised of the outcome of their application by mid December.

Please note: No late applications will be accepted


4. Reporting Requirements
A Final Report must be submitted to the GRDC within one (1) month of the fellowship/award completion date. The format for this Final Report is available on the GRDC’s website: http://www.grdc.com.au/director/apply/ - ‘Final Report for VF, SF and IST’.

Four (4) signed copies of the Final Report, including any attachments, should be forwarded to:

The organisation which receives the funding is required to forward to the GRDC, as soon as possible (and, in any event, within 3 months) following the completion of the activities described in the application, a statement of expenditure of the funds certified to be true and correct by a representative of the organisation who is authorised to sign financial statements (the template for this statement can be downloaded from the GRDC’s website: http://www.grdc.com.au/director/apply/ - Form C).

Failure to meet these reporting requirements will be considered when assessing future applications.


5. Payment of approved funds

Successful applicants will receive 75% of the approved funding up front. The remaining 25% will only be paid once all reporting requirements have been met, including the submission and approval of a Final Report (within one (1) month of the fellowship/award completion date) and a Form C.
