Agricultural Training Awards (ATA)

GRDC Agricultural Training Awards (ATAs) are one (1) year scholarships available to students undertaking full time study at a recognised vocational education and training provider institution.

Each award is valued at $3,000.

The GRDC invites and assesses ATA Applications once a year. The application closing date, for full time study being undertaken in 2008, is Friday 31 October 2008.


1. Eligibility

To be eligible for an ATA:
• The candidate must undertake full time study
• The study must not be a tertiary degree
• The candidate must be an Australian citizen or permanent resident
• The candidate must receive acceptance at a recognised vocational education and training provider institution.


2. Selection Criteria

Scholarships will be awarded on the student’s ability to meet the following selection criteria:
• Strong record of achievement (i.e. at work, school or in the community)
• Enthusiasm for the agricultural industry
• Understanding of the knowledge and skills that will be required for a successful career in the Australian grains industry
• demonstrated intent to work for the Australian grains industry
• two (2) written referee reports


3. Applying

Applicants are required to use the GRDC’s Agricultural Training Award (ATA) application template. This form can be completed on any IBM compatible PC with Microsoft Word 2000 (or a later version) or any word processing software that can convert from Word 2000. If you require an alternate version, please contact the Contracts Coordinator on 02 6272 5525.

The application form must not be hand written.

When completed, the GRDC requires ten (10) paper copies (A4 size, double sided if possible & stapled) of the application and supporting documentation to be submitted. These should be addressed to:

An electronic copy is also required and must be emailed to forms@grdc.com.au. The name of the emailed word document should incorporate the applicant’s name eg Steven Smith.doc

Both the hard copies and electronic copy must reach the GRDC by 5pm on the closing date.

Applications will not be acknowledged upon receipt.

Applicants will be advised of the outcome of their application by mid December.

Please note: No late applications will be accepted


3. Reporting Requirements

On completion of an ATA scholarship, a two (2) page final report on your studies must be submitted to the GRDC (in your own format).

As a guide, the report should include:
• your accomplishments
• what you have gained
• your future directions, if know
• work prospects, if any
• a copy of your transcript

This final report is due by 31 December in the year of your award.

4. Payment of GRDC Agricultural Training Awards

Successful applicants will receive an ATA Agreement Letter which will need to be signed and returned to the GRDC, as a way of accepting the scholarship. A 75% payment ($2,250) will then be made up front. The remaining 25% ($750) will only be paid once a final report is received and approved.
